Giraffe Class - Year 4
Giraffe Class Learning Journey
Term 4 - One Planet, One World
Why is our world wonderful?
In the One Planet, Our World project, we will use maps to locate countries and read four-figure grid references. They will sort and classify human and physical features, and begin to use the eight points of a compass to locate geographical features on a map. They will study data to find out about life in three settlements. They will learn about the layers of Earth and study plate tectonics. They will name and describe the five major climate zones on Earth and begin to use longitude and latitude to locate places on a world map. The children will locate and name countries and capital cities in Europe before studying significant human and physical features in the United Kingdom. They will learn about significant UK counties and cities and carry out fieldwork to study the effect of weather on the local environment.
Our PE days are: Monday and Thursday
Please come to school dressed in your PE kit on these days with earrings removed and long hair tied up.
Home Reading
Please ensure that you listen to your child read 5 times a week. We will be monitoring this in class and changing reading books every Friday. If you finish reading your book before, then please re-read it for fluency. We will be sending home 2 reading books: 1 based on their reading level and 1 book of their choice.
Times Table Rock Stars
Children from Year 3 upwards will receive a username and passwords for Timetable Rock stars. This allows them to practise and prepare for the multiplication check at the end of Year 4.

Ukuleles
