Sun Bear Class -Reception
Welcome to Sun Bear Class!
Reception Class at St Joseph's is a fun, multi-sensory, hands-on learning environment which supports each child in making their next step of learning. We have a large, purpose built Reception Class and a wonderful wide open space dedicated to the Reception children to explore and enjoy including trikes, large sandpit and plenty of room to run around.
We engage in all areas of the Early Years Curriculum in our outdoor and indoor classrooms. We plan and assess using the 7 areas of Learning and the Characteristics of Effective learning identified in the Early Years Curriculum.
When children join St Joseph's we ensure:
- A smooth transition from Nursery to Reception and Reception to Year One.
- Strong links with parents from the earliest opportunity.
- A start to school appropriate to the developmental needs of all our children.
- An environment where all our children are safe, happy and secure.
Each child will receive a Home Visit from our Class Teacher before they start school. This helps us to get to know you and your child and offers you an opportunity to share any concerns or ask any questions you may have about this important time in your child's life. The children will also be invited to a short classroom visit to meet the Sun Bear Team in the Summer Term before September and to get to know other children that will be in their class and the layout of their classroom.
Term 4
Welcome to Term 4.
Hopefully, the weather will improve but please make sure that your child has a waterproof coat and wellies in school as we play and learn outside whatever the weather.
PE day is still a Thursday. Please wear your PE Kit on this day.
Home Learning will be added to your child's Learning Log each week. Please ensure that spellings are learnt across the week and that reading takes place each day. There are also some practical activities to complete to support your child's development across the Early Years Curriculum.
If you require further support with reading or home learning, please speak to Mrs Handford.
Once upon a time
This term we will spend time looking into the wonderful world of traditional tales. We will listen to different traditional tales and have the chance to act out the stories in our play. We will also listen to alternative contemporary stories to see different viewpoints from the characters. We will use the stories to think about how life has changed from when the stories were written. We will also make up our own stories and make masks, props and puppets to showcase them to each other.
