KCSP Science day

How can we make Red Riding Hood's coat waterproof?

We were joined online by Tom Holloway and all the children from KCSP in year 1 and 2 who posed our problem to investigate. As scientists, the children had to observe closely, use scientific vocabulary and make predictions about what materials would be the most suitable.

The children chose to crayon, oil, glue, plastic and paper to sandwich between the fabric.

We identified that plastic was the most waterproof and that the fabric was the most absorbant when covered with oil.

Florence identified that this was because plastic does not have any holes but the fabric did.
