How can I explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth and the falling objects?

Penguin Class had a great day making a Marvellous Marble Run. Our aim was for our marbles to take as long as possible to complete their run. We used different variables and adapted our runs using lots of different resources. The slowest run was 9.1 seconds!!!
